~~~~In His Service~~~~
The deacons are in need of 2 lb. size coffee cans! The cans are used to take Altar flowers to people's homes after the service each Sunday. If you have any, please bring them to church for the deacons. And, if you receive any flowers from church, please return the cans!
Jesus said that unless we become as little children, it is difficult to enter his kingdom.Perhaps by volunteering to deliver the children's story time during worship, adults can learn to be more like Christ! A sign-up sheet is posted in the Narthex. Books of children's sermons are available in the church library for those who would like help getting the creative juices flowing. Questions may be directed to Rev. Dianne Deming or Linda McCorkle.
The Westminster Choir is always looking for new choral singers. We particularly would welcome altos and tenors, but all interested singers should give us a try! Speak to the Music Director George Johnson (home phone: 226-0559) or just come to rehearsal on Thursday nights at 7 pm. in the Chancel.
The Prayer Shawl Group meets Fridays 9:30-11:30 AM. The participants pray and fellowship while knitting and chrocheting shawls for those who need encouragement and a visible sign that we care and are praying for them.
Adults and Children have opportunities to serve:
Part of what we do as a church is "carry each other's burdens, in this way....(we) fulfill the law of Christ". Galations 6:2
The Communications and Outreach Committee is encouraging you to read the book "Caring for Inactive Members: How to Make God's House a Home".
Who should read the book? You should, and so should every member of the congregation. The more members who are aware of good and bad responses to those who you haven't seen around church for a while, the better it will be for everyone. Learn what to say, and what not to say, to be a caring listening Christian: extending deeply, concerned caring, in the way our Lord Jesus cared. Reaching out can provide beneficial spill-over into other ministry areas and other areas of our lives.
Don't you know a member that you would like to continue relationship with? Are you a new member who would like to meet other members of the congregation? You can provide comfort to 1 or 2 members by developing a greater understanding and making sure you are not judgmental or coming across in a way that is offensive in this sensitive contact. Learn to concentrate on listening and supporting them as members of the body of Christ. Those who are not actively involved remain MEMBERS.
Look for the sign up sheet to get a copy of the book for $12.00.
