May 2006

Dear Friends,

There are some years which seem to go directly from winter to summer with spring only having been a fleeting phantom in-between. This has not been one of those years. We have had a number of weeks of spring weather and the flowers and trees have all burst forth in marvelous display of nature's glory. What a beautiful time of year as winter becomes a memory and the anticipation of the long days of summer makes joyful the spirit.

It is no accident that Easter is a springtime holiday. The vernal renewal of creation makes a perfect backdrop for the Easter message of Christ's rising from the dead. As Martin Luther said, "Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime."

There are years, though, in which glad Easter tidings can seem as fleeting as a phantom spring. I hope this is not one of those years for you. Hear the good news of Easter - Christ has triumphed over death! The earth is green again. And you too shall rise and be renewed by God's grace and have length of days.

Blessings in this Eastertide. And may we often be together in Christ's name to celebrate the divine miracle of life in all its glory.

Yours in Christ,

Frank
